Valle Sagrado : The Bottom Line

If you’re in Kobe and looking for a place with a wide range of beers on tap, and also for some bottles and/or cans to takeaway, then Valle Sagrado should be on your list of places to go. One warning – make sure you look at the labels carefully for the prices vary greatly if you drink them instore or to takeaway. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, and the owner is great at explaining about the beers if you have any questions. The whole place is non-smoking and has free wifi along with no table charge. And if you’re feeling peckish, just pop next door to Jesus Pizza and bring some in. You’ll thank BeerTengoku later.

Valle Sagrado : Background

Valle Sagrado opened in April 2018 with the owner having originally working at Wailele in Tokyo for a few years before. As such, the bar came with a strong recommendation from a friend of ours. From the outside, it’s next to a pizzeria and as such, the two places seem to coexist with one another.

Valle Sagrado is located on the north side of Kobe city, just a 5 minute walk uphill from Sannomiya station, but everything that side of the city is uphill. Which means at least when you’re going back to the station, you’re headed downhill into it.

Valle Sagrado : Atmosphere & Interior

As you step into Valle Sagrado, you’re greeted by a small partition with a fridge to the right of you, housing a variety of beers from both Japan and overseas. Go a bit further inside though and you’re met with some quite high tables and chairs, that after a couple of beers, you may end up stumbling over if you’ve got two left feet like me. In terms of seating, there’s space for around 20 people inside, though it’s a bit tight. There’s no table charge at Valle Sagrado and there is also some free wifi and the whole space is non-smoking. In terms of outside drinking, there is a small space you can drink outside if you have a pet with you, but no pets are allowed inside.

Valle Sagrado : Beer & Tap Information

Valle Sagrado has 6 taps of craft beer, with the taps being a mix of domestic beers and also imports. The beers come in three main sizes : M (355 ml) from ¥1,000, US (473 ml) from ¥1,400, and XL (592 ml) from ¥1,750 with all prices including tax. There are, on occasion, times when the beer sizes do change but the pours are pretty good and while you do get a bit of foam on top, it is minimal. There wasn’t any offer a beer flight nor any happy hour.

Valle Sagrado also has two big fridges for beers, both in bottles and cans, that can be bought to drink in or takeaway though the prices vary widely. For example, I picked up one beer to takeaway, a domestic double IPA for ¥1,000 but to drink in store, it was ¥1,700, so read the labels carefully.

Valle Sagrado : Food Information

In terms of food, there wasn’t much on offer, besides some pate, though we were told it was ok to bring your own food in, as long as you take the rubbish with you. The owner didn’t speak any English and the menus were all in Japanese, with just a smattering of English on them, so you may need some help.
