At the time of writing, it’s unknown which hops went into making Kyoto Beer Lab Hop Damn but supposedly it’s some of the big C hops – think Centennial, Cascade, Citra, and Chinook amongst others.

Kyoto Beer Lab Hop Damn Aroma and Taste

Kyoto Beer Lab Hop Damn poured out a dark golden orange colour with a plump white head on top that clung to the side of the glass throughout drinking. Kyoto Beer Lab Hop Damn had a pungent dank and citrus hoppy aroma to it, along with a touch too much sweetness for my liking for a West Coast IPA. There was a touch of diacetyl to Kyoto Beer Lab Hop Damn – not enough to be a problem, unless you are seriously adverse to it, but there is enough for it to be noticed, especially once it has warmed up somewhat.

Kyoto Beer Lab Hop Damn also pulls no punches in the body – a big sucker punch of hoppy bitterness from the first sip to the last, without letting of the gas either. The dank and citrus flavours also came speeding through from the first sip, with the crystal malt bringing some sweetness to take away from the hoppiness though once Kyoto Beer Lab Hop Damn had warmed up, the sweetness was a tad strong. The diacetyl also made an appearance in the body too – again, not being enough to put me off from drinking it, but definitely not to the style of a West Coast IPA that I had become accustomed to. Kyoto Beer Lab Hop Damn finished off with a flourish of citrus, before fading to a slight dankness.

Kyoto Beer Lab Hop Damn The Bottom Line

Dial back the diacetyl and crystal and there’s potential.
