Kirishima Pilsner is a 5% German style pilsner from Kirishima Beer, based in Miyazaki, Japan. It’s part of their all-year round range of beers and can be found in bottles, and occasionally, on tap. Kirishima Pilsner also won gold at the 2017 International Beer Cup for Best German Style Pilsner in Japan.
Kirishima Pilsner Aroma and Taste
Kirishima Pilsner poured out a clear golden amber colour with plenty of fluffy white head on top. It had a crisp, noble hop-like aroma to it with a slight biscuity bready malt nose to it as well. As it warmed up, there weren’t any discernible off-notes to it either. It was quite a straight-forward smelling pilsner.
The body was more of the same – a crisp, sweet bite with a subtle earthy hop body to it. It’s better than your usual macro pilsner as the sweetness has been restrained just a wee bit, making Kirishima Pilsner a definite thirst quencher in the summer heat in Japan. There was very faint bitterness to it as Kirishima Pilsner finished off, but the residual sweetness in the body put an end to it very quickly.
Kirishima Pilsner The Bottom Line
It’s not difficult to see why Kirishima Pilsner won an award – it’s not exceptional but one of the better craft pilsners I’ve drunk.
