Hideji Spring Yuzu Ale is a 4.5% fruit beer from Hideji Beer Brewery, based in Miyazaki, Japan. It’s part of their spring seasonal lineup and can be found in both bottles and on tap when on sale. Hideji Spring Yuzu Ale is brewed using juice from locally grown yuzu, known as Japanese citron, from the Miyazaki area.
Hideji Spring Yuzu Ale Aroma and Taste
I know Hideji Spring Yuzu Ale is brewed using yuzu juice but it was still surprising how cloudy it was out of the bottle. The dull orange brown colour was topped with a clear white head that faded fast to a few bubbles around the outside. There was a yuzu aroma coming off the beer as well as a subtle caramel nose too. The yuzu wasn’t too pungent and also smelt quite fresh – a nice surprise considering how juice can oxidise and bring some weird aromas.
The body was pretty much the same as the nose, with yuzu and a subtle bready caramel malt base being the only flavours of note. It would have been nice if Hideji Spring Yuzu Ale had been a tad drier as it would make an awesome refreshing summer beer. It wasn’t overly sweet either however it did end up a little one-dimensional in the flavours. I’m just happy it didn’t have any dreaded washing-up component to it.
Hideji Spring Yuzu Ale The Bottom Line
Hideji Spring Yuzu Ale is a simple yuzu ale but it is nice and drinkable.
