Donryu Dream Pale Ale is a 5% English pale ale from Donryu Dream Beer, based in Gunma, Japan. It’s part of the all-year round range of beer from Donryu Dream Beer, and can be found in both bottles and on tap. It has also won a silver award at the Asia Beer World Cup in 2014 and Bronze at the International Beer Cup in 2012.
Donryu Dream Pale Ale Aroma and Taste
Donryu Dream Pale Ale poured out a deep amber brown colour with a fair amount of frothy white head that clung to the side of the glass throughout drinking. It had a distinct malt aroma, with a caramel pungency being the strongest of aromas followed by some biscuit-like snap, and finally some citrus hops coming through. I’ve seen Donryu Dream Pale Ale listed as an American Pale Ale in places – I would have been disappointed if I had been told that and tried the beer.
The body was as malt forward as the nose, with caramel coming through the strongest followed by, you guessed it, some biscuit snap and a citrus bitterness. The bitterness was mild and didn’t detract from the caramel and biscuit flavours either. Donryu Dream Pale Ale continued that same taste into the aftertaste with the sweetness lingering way beyond the beer has gone.
Donryu Dream Pale Ale The Bottom Line
Donryu Dream Pale Ale is a solid example of an English Pale Ale – it’s not exciting nor goes beyond what you expect from an English Pale Ale.
