Sankt Gallen Kansha No Nama Black/Kuro by Sankt Gallen

Following up on the tails of its sibling Sankt Gallen Kansha No Nama White/Kogane, comes Sankt Gallen Kansha No Nama Black/Kuro, a 5.4% stout from Sankt Gallen. Like the White/Kogane version, the Black/Kuro version was originally brewed for Father’s Day in 2010, though since then, it has been brewed annually. Moreover, it can also be found in small 330ml bottles, or the crazy 1.8L juggernaut sake bottles for smashing things. Dunno why you would want to smash open a bottle of beer, but I guess champagne is too pricey for some people.

Sankt Gallen Kansha No Nama Black/Kuro Aroma and Taste

Drinking Sankt Gallen Kansha No Nama Black/Kuro so quickly after the White/Kogane version was deliberate,as the beers can be bought in a two-pack, and who would not have one without the other? Yin-yang. Feng-shui. Other mystical stuff that I don’t understand. Upon pouring, it appeared like a decent stout- pitch black body with a tan head that was frothy but not mushy in your mouth, yet it did give me a funny brown moustache. The aromas coming off of it were coffee, roasted malts, and some sweet chocolate notes too.

The contrast between the White/Kogane and this Black/Kuro version is pretty vast, but then what else would you expect from two different styles of beer? Sankt Gallen Kansha No Nama Black/Kuro was pretty much bang on for what you would expect from a stout: roasted malts, a smucker of coffee with dark chocolate and a dry bitter finish.

Sankt Gallen Kansha No Nama Black/Kuro One Line Review

Sankt Gallen Kansha No Nama Black/Kuro isn’t spectacular or going to blow you away, but what it does, it does well.
