Hitachino Nest Red Rice Ale is a Belgian strong ale, packing in 7% in a small bottle that is brewed using traditional Japanese red rice, which is usually a sign of celebration during important Japanese events. Hitachino Nest Red Rice Ale is also brewed using strains of yeast normally found in sake production as well to ensure the red rice ferments.

Another great bottle design with the attractive owl.

Hitachino Nest Red Rice Ale Aroma and Taste

Hitachino Nest Red Rice Ale pours very well out of the bottle, with a cloudy golden haze to the body and a slightly pink head that stays for the duration of the beer. This beer is pungent, in a good way. Getting past the head, Hitachino Nest Red Rice Ale smells like cooked rice followed up by a strong dose of hops along with some fruity berry aromas.

Drinking this beer is akin to someone throwing a bucket of mixed berries at your face and then getting them squashed. I could have sworn someone had put strawberries in my beer at first as it is that strong. Strong rice flavours also come through but the mix of berries and alcohol can be disconcerting and dangerous. The pleasant aftertaste of a fruity bitter kick is much welcome.

Hitachino Nest Red Rice Ale One-line Review

Hitachino Nest Red Rice Ale is a quaint beer, that is not for everyone; however, if you like your berries and alcohol, it is right up your street.
