Karuizawa Brewery is one of the newest breweries in the Japanese craft beer market, starting out in June 2013 under Dover Ltd, their parent company. Dover Ltd brought in brewing specialists to design the new brewery, located in the foothills of Mount Asama in Karuizawa, Nagano. They also brought in three beer specialists, and four of their own brew makers, to help set up the brewery. Karuizawa Brewery has its origins firmly set in German style beer production and produces 2000kl of beer annually.
Karuizawa Brewery’s main line up:
- Karuizawa Clear – A 5% pale lager, brewed using corn, hops, rice, and starch. Can be bought in can or in bottles.
- Karuizawa Dark – A 5% amber lager / Vienna style, brewed using corn, hops, rice, and starch. Can be bought in can or in bottles.
- Karuizawa Black – A 5% Schwarzbier, brewed using corn, hops, rice, and starch. Can be bought in can only.
- Karuizawa Weiss – A 5% German hefeweizen. Can be bought in can or in bottles.
- Karuizawa Alt – A 5% altbier, brewed using hops and barley only. Can be bought in can only.
- Karuizawa Premium ale/kölsch – A 5% ale, brewed using hops and barley only. Can be bought in can only.
- Karuizawa Premium clear – A 5.5% lager, brewed using hops and barley only. Can be bought in can or in bottles.
- Premium dark – A 5.5% amber lager / Vienna style, brewed using hops and barley only. Can be bought in can or in bottles.
