Our Brewing Brew Community : Background
Our Brewing Brew Community is a 5.5% coffee lager from Our Brewing, based in Fukui city, in Fukui. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, as well as it being part of their collaborative lineup. The beer was made in conjunction with Posse Coffee, a roastery in Mikuni, Fukui. Our Brewing Brew Community has a lager base to which coffee beans sourced from Kenya were added, and hops in the form of Talus were used. Finally, as with other beers from Our Brewing, this beer also uses locally grown six-row barley.

Our Brewing Brew Community : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Though Our Brewing Brew Community is a coffee lager, I really wasn’t expecting as dark as a body as what came out of the can. Does that even make sense? I was expecting some golden, or at least lighter in colour. This beer had the appearance more of schwarzbier – not that’s a bad thing by any means. The head was thicky and fluffy, with an ever so slight tan colour to it, while leaving some thick rings around the edge of the glass during drinking.
The aroma was of course initially one of roasted coffee – light on the nose with some deeper notes of vanilla as Our Brewing Brew Community warmed up. There was a touch of roasted malt present, which would also explain why the beer was so dark in the glass. Moreover, as the beer warmed up, those vanilla notes became more prominent and balanced out nicely against the malts.
The body began with a sharp, astringent coffee bitterness, that then smoothed out as the beer warmed up. The vanilla notes appeared again in the body, and if you had me blindfolded, I wouldn’t have thought that this was a lager, with the only really signs of that being its light and crispy body.
