Novoru Mawaru : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Novoru Mawaru poured out a thick golden orange colour, akin to a glass of orange juice, though the image above doesn’t really do the colour justic. There was a thick white head on top, that left some thick rings around the edge of the glass during drinking, right through until the end.
The aroma was a mix of tropical fruits combined with some citrus notes. The pineapple aroma, combined with some bold orange notes, paired off against some melon like aroma once the beer had been given the chance to warm up somewhat. There was a residual layer of sweetness behind all of it, just giving Novoru Mawaru a slightly sweeter than expected aroma as it warmed up some more.
At 10%, I was expecting a boozy hit from the beer, but it didn’t really come through – when chilled or when warmed up. What did come through was a swift, bitter kick to the palate, that did ease up after a few seconds, letting the tropical and citrus flavours take centre stage. Those hoppy flavours remained in spite of a sweeter edge coming through as Novoru Mawaru warmed up, and the beer finished off with a light flourish of sweet and fruity flavours.
Novoru Mawaru : The Bottom Line
They did well to hide the booziness in this beer, and it comes with lashings of flavour, though at the cost of your throat.
