Good Hops A Summer Day : Background
Good Hops A Summer Day is a 5% American pale ale from Good Hops, based in Tono, Iwate. It’s part of their canned and draught line-up, though its availability is unknown at the time of writing. With it being part of their “Festival Ale” line-up though, I suspect that it could be a limited release, but don’t quote me on that. Good Hops A Summer Day is brewed using locally gorwn Cascade and Saaz hops from the Tono area, and imported German Hersbrucker hops.

Good Hops A Summer Day : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Good Hops A Summer Day poured out a reletively clear, golden colour with a large frothy and sticky head on top. That head had some serious legs to it as it stuck around during drinking; leaving some thick sticky rings around the edge of the glass as well.
The aroma was a bit confusing and muddled however. There was a slight citrus aroma to the beer; though with some floral notes just lying underneath it all. I couldn’t quite figure out what kind of beer Good Hops A Summer Day was trying to be; a European-influenced pale ale, or an American-influenced pale ale with some European hops. There was a slight mustiness to the beer as it warmed up; with a touch of malt sweetness just trying to push through it all.
As in the nose, Good Hops A Summer Day was equally as confusing. The citrus notes were present, though just, yet there was also a touch of mustiness lingering underneath it all – waiting to cut through. The beer had a light bitterness to it as well; just off-setting the slight sweetness to the beer.
Good Hops A Summer Day : The Bottom Line
I felt a bit underwhelmed though as I drank this on a late summer’s day – it didn’t really evoke much of a festival feeling in me.
