Yo-Ho Uchoten Aliens : Background

Yo-Ho Uchoten Aliens is a 6% hazy IPA from Yo-Ho Brewing, based in Saku, Nagano. It was originally part of their draught only lineup; however, in late 2024, it began to be sold in cans across the Nagano and Yamanashi region, before slowly becoming available at limited 7/11s across Japan. Cans sold out within a month, and the plans are to rerelease it again from May 2025 onwards.

Yo-Ho Uchoten Aliens : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste

I had Yo-Ho Uchoten Aliens at the Yona Yona Beer Works Ebisu branch before finding out that it was available in cans. Except it wasn’t as it had sold out but then also found out that it was being released again. The beer came up a hazy pale yellow colour with a thick, sticky white head on top that left some thick rings around the glass.

The aroma was your prototypical hazy IPA. In spite of Yo-Ho Brewing proclaming “11 times the normal amount of hops” were in this beer, when you’ve had so many hazy IPA, that PR blurb becomes meaningless. It had an aroma of citrus and tropical notes – think grapefruit and lemons, with mango and pineapple – alongside a smooth candied sweetness from the malts.

It wasn’t a bitter beer either – I’m guessing the hops were used for the aroma in the beer – as the biggest flavour was the citrus and tropical notes. Outside of those flavours, while Yo-Ho Uchoten Aliens was a nice beer, it didn’t really develop much more than that and ended up being ok.

Yo-Ho Uchoten Aliens : The Bottom Line

By now, with so many hazy IPAs on the market, you’ve got to do something special to stand out. Yo-Ho Uchoten Aliens doesn’t do that. It’s not a bad beer, but nor is it mind blowing.
