South Horizon Blank Log Book is a 10.5% imperial milk stout from South Horizon Brewing, based in Kochi, in Shikoku, Japan. It’s part of their regular lineup and can be found in both cans and bottles, though we’re yet to see it on tap at the time of writing. South Horizon Blank Log Book is brewed with Citra hops and contains adjuncts in the form of brown sugar, lactose, vanilla extract, and white koji. It is also an award-winning beer, having taken gold at the Japan Beer Awards in 2024.

South Horizon Blank Log Book : Appearance
Poured out a dark brownish black colour with a thin off-white tan head that faded fast to a thin ring of bubbles around the side of the glass.
South Horizon Blank Log Book : Aroma
Punchy aroma of burnt caramel, vanilla, creamy milk, and some light sake notes in the background. As it warms up, a roasted black malt aroma came through, bringing some chocolate and coffee notes too. In spite of being 10.5%, no discernible alcohol heat or off-notes present.
South Horizon Blank Log Book : Taste
Surprisingly light / medium bodied, but lots of flavour present. A rich mixture of caramel, cream, vanilla, along with some chocolate and coffee notes. Very complex beer but not overpowering or boozey. With the light body, it was easy drinking when chilled and warm. The flavours linger for a long time after drinking, which was surprisingly considering how light the body is.
