Awaji IPA : Appearance
Poured out a dark amber colour with a plump white head on top that left some streaks down the side of the glass.
Awaji IPA : Aroma
Buttery and hoppy – English IPA with American IPA influence? It had the butteriness of an English IPA but with the citrusy base associated with IPAs. Very confusing.
Awaji IPA : Taste
Bitter and buttery. Really just a confusing beer. Drinkable but on the verge of a drain beer, nice but also not at the same time. When chilled, it was ok with its lemon and grapefruit inflexion, but the butteriness when it was warm, while not overwhelming, was not welcome.
Awaji IPA : The Bottom Line
The brewers at Awaji Beer need to drink some clean IPAs from Japan, let alone the US, to get a handle on what makes a good American IPA
