Tsukarenaosu Fukura Lager : Background

Tsukarenaosu Fukura Lager is a 4.5% Japanese rice lager from Tsukarenaosu Brewery, based in Minamiawaji, on Awaji Island, in Hyogo. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup with it also being a regular beer from the brewery in their summer and autumn lineup. Tsukarenaosu Fukura Lager is brewed using locally grown Fukura rice – a strain that is unknown to us at BeerTengoku.

Tsukarenaosu Fukura Lager : Appearance

A hazy and light golden straw colour with a thin later of white bubbles on top that faded fast to leave a thin ring of bubbles around the edge.

Tsukarenaosu Fukura Lager : Aroma

Muted aroma all around – light floral notes with a touch of sake like quality to the nose as the beer warms. Nothing overpowers or dominates the beer. Touch of pilsner malt in the back to get things going through but all around a standard rice lager.

Tsukarenaosu Fukura Lager : Taste

Smooth bitterness with a touch of pilsner sweetness throughout drinking. It’s pretty much like your regular Japanese rice lager. Which is not a bad thing as it’s easy drinking and pretty much inoffensive. The flavours linger between a sweet pilsner bite and a sake-like rice quality to the beer during drinking.

Tsukarenaosu Fukura Lager : The Bottom Line

Inoffensive and mid – it’s not going to win awards for cost performance but it is a solid example of Japanese rice lager.
