Udon Brewing Kama Tama Butter Udon : Aroma & Taste
I had heard of this range of beers from Udon Brewing from a friend (Thanks Simon C) and was wondering what the deal was? It wouldn’t have surprised me if someone had made some beers with the flavour profile of udon – heck we have milkshake IPAs and pastry stouts – so why not something with the flavour profile of a bowl of udon. Good job that it was only in the label design and name of the beer that udon was present. The idea of drinking a chicken noodle soup beer was not really high on my list of things to try.
Udon Brewing Kama Tama Butter Udon poured out a very hazy dull golden orange colour with a plump white head on top that had plenty of staying power. Thankfully, no butter had been added as I didn’t get a buttery aroma from the beer, but instead one of a smooth citrus aroma – lots of lemon and grapefruit when the beer was chilled, and then some lime and passion fruit as it warmed up. There was a touch of malt sweetness to the beer, but at 9%, I was most impressed with how well the alcohol was hidden behind the layers of hop aroma.
The body to Udon Brewing Kama Tama Butter Udon began with a smooth bitterness, enough to be noticed but not abrasive enough to offend the taste buds. The hops brought a similar profile as to the nose, with some more lemon and and grapefruit alongside the lime and passion fruit too. Overall, I was glad that Udon Brewing Kama Tama Butter Udon didn’t actually taste, or have the texture, of Kamatama butter udon, but instead tasted like, well, a hazy double IPA.
Udon Brewing Kama Tama Butter Udon : The Bottom Line
Udon Brewing Kama Tama Butter Udon is a decent hazy double IPA.
