Yonezawa Jacks IPA : Aroma & Taste

Yonezawa Jacks IPA poured out much darker than I expected for an American IPA – it looked almost like a traditional IPA from the UK with its body. The body was a dark golden honey colour, and had a massive amount of plump white head on top that left some streaks down the side of the glass. The aroma was more American IPA than English with a distinct citrus aroma of lemon and grapefruit, which was followed up with some peachiness too. There wasn’t any discernible off flavours going on either.

The body though was a little peculiar – was it supposed to be an English IPA or an American? Either way, it was neither – but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Yonezawa Jacks IPA had a subtle bitterness to start off with, but it was sweeter than I would have liked, though not cloying. The hops brought a similar profile as found in the nose – citrus with some peach – but the caramel flavour was more pronounced, especially as the beer warmed up.

Yonezawa Jacks IPA : The Bottom Line

At this price, I want something outstanding from a beer, but Yonezawa Jacks IPA is just mediocre.
