In A Daze Ichigo is a 5% fruit beer from In A Daze Brewing, based in Ina, in Nagano, Japan. It’s part of their seasonal lineup but it can be found in both cans and on draught. As the name suggests, In A Daze Ichigo uses strawberries with the local variety known as “Koihime” and the beer uses strawberries picked up at different times – those from summer and autumn. This strawberry was developed by Shinshu University. In A Daze Ichigo is brewed using Citra, Enigma, Idaho 7, and Mosaic hops.

In A Daze Ichigo : Aroma & Taste
First I must say that In A Daze Ichigo has an awesome label – it kind of looks like a kimono or even a yukata so kudos to the design team there.
Onto more pressing matters and how In A Daze Ichigo looks and tastes. Well it didn’t poured out a strawberry red colour so that is something positive to start off with. It came out a hazy dark golden honey colour with a thin amount of white head on top that left blobs around the glass. The aroma was definitely on the sweet side, but a natural strawberry sweet of those picked at the height of their ripening. In terms of hops, there was a meagre amount of citrus aroma but it was light and fleeting.
In A Daze Ichigo is styled as a *shudder* juicy pale ale – I mean it could be worse. It could be called a “moist” pale ale. But that’s by the by. In A Daze Ichigo did start with a smooth, if not low, bitterness, that quickly faded to a strawberry forward flavour. Again, not expected but it did taste natural and there was none of the chemical stickiness that comes with artificial flavouring. The hops were present, but barely, and brought a citrus note to the beer. In A Daze Ichigo was full bodied and fruity, but didn’t have any discernible off flavours. It finished off with a lingering strawberry flavour.
In A Daze Ichigo : The Bottom Line
In A Daze Ichigo is one of In A Daze Brewing’s better beers and I would recommend it over many of their others.
