Let’s be honest, IPAs have been around for such time that whenever people think of craft beer, the style is synonymous with the industry that everyone and anyone has to have an IPA in their lineup. Of course, we at BeerTengoku are a bit partial to a pint of few of the hoppy stuff, but we haven’t thought about opening a shop dedicated to the style, but that’s what IPA Honpo in Sendai is all about.
IPA Honpo have both a physical shop and also an online store, with both of them offering the same products at the same price, and opened in May 2021 – perhaps not the best time to open a store during the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic. The store started out dedicated to IPAs from both Japan and overseas, with everything from IPL to Triple IPAs, which includes hazy IPAs, session IPAs, and also Brut IPAs.
The physical store has space for drinking in with some snacks, though we didn’t notice a bottle charge anywhere on the site.
Shipping online is pretty much inline with other places that operate through Yamato. Shipping to Hokkaido and Chugoku regions costs 1200, Tohoku at 750, Kanto at 800, Koshinetsu 850, Tokai at 900, Kinki at 1000, Shikoku at 1300, Kyushu at 1400, and then Okinawa at 1640. This is for the smallest box, which holds 6 cans of beer. Prices for boxes goes up for larger boxes, by 200 yen for an extra 2 cans over the basic order of 6, and then 300 yen for an extra 4 cans over the basic order of 6.
