TDM 1874 IPA #8 is a 6.8% IPA from TDM 1874 Brewery, based in Tokaichiba, in Yokohama, Japan. It’s part of their rotating range of IPAs and can be found in cans and on tap. TDM 1874 IPA #8 is brewed using Mosaic, Citra, and Denali hops. TDM 1874 IPA #8 is the third beer from TDM 1874 to be canned, after the TDM 1874 BBB and the TDM 1874 Hamanashi Gose.

TDM 1874 IPA #8 Aroma and Taste

TDM 1874 IPA #8 poured out a clear light golden orange colour with a plump white head on top, which clung to the side of the glass. There was sweet caramel dank aroma coming off TDM 1874 IPA #8, along with a subtle fruity aroma of peach and passion fruit. The dank hop aroma had some hints of pine coming through once it had warmed up but the most surprising thing is how sweet the beer is – I was honestly expecting an American IPA, so more hop forward, but TDM 1874 IPA #8 wasn’t to be the case.

The bitterness at first was subtle hook but the caramel sweetness from the malts quickly overcame the bitterness. The mix of fruity hop flavours – think peach, grapefruit, and passion fruit – contrasted nicely with the malt sweetness. TDM 1874 IPA #8 was clean tasting too – no off flavours nor peculiar hop balances – though those looking for a gassy IPA shouldn’t go expecting anything like that from the beer. TDM 1874 IPA #8 had a lingering fruity sweetness, with just a touch of pine dankness.

TDM 1874 IPA #8 The Bottom Line

TDM 1874 IPA #8 is more malt forward than your usual dank IPA, but that’s a good thing. Definitely worth trying.
