Kirishima Stout is a 5% dry stout from Kirishima Beer, based in Miyazaki, Japan. It’s part of their all-year round lineup and can be found in both bottles and on tap too. It most recently won bronze at the Australian International Beer Competition in 2018 though besides that, not much else is known about Kirishima Stout.
Kirishima Stout Aroma and Taste
Kirishima Stout poured out pitch black colour with a light tan coloured head on top. The head faded to leave a thin ring of tan bubbles around the edge of the glass, with a slight oily slick on top. There was a strong roasted malt, with a tinge of chocolate and also a coffee aroma to it, alongside some creamy lactose notes to it.
The body had a smoothness to it that was certainly “dry”. The chocolate and coffee flavours were the first, and also the strongest, ones to come through, with a slight bitter, roasted black malt just lying in the background. There was no hoppy bitterness to Kirishima Stout; however, the lacto flavours did come across as a bit yoghurt-like. Kirishima Stout finished off with lingering chocolate and coffee notes to it.
Kirishima Stout The Bottom Line
Kirishima Stout is a surprisingly solid, well-made stout.
