Kujukuri Ocean Beer IPA is a 5% English IPA by Kankiku Shuzo, based in Chiba, Japan. It’s part of their all-year round range of beers can be found in both bottles and tap. Kujukuri Ocean Beer IPA is brewed using imported Simcoe and Nelson Sauvin hops to give it an IBU50.

Kujukuri Ocean Beer IPA poured out a hazy orange amber colour with a small amount of white head, made up of tiny tiny bubbles, that popped away to a thin ring around the side of the glass. The aroma was quite malty – caramel along with some breadiness to it, followed up with a fruity hoppy aroma of grapes and citrusy lemon coming through. I would say it was strange but then I’ve had stranger beers in Japan. Much stranger…

The body wasn’t too dissimilar to the nose with the malts being first and foremost flavour to come through. The caramel flavours are strong with Kujukuri Ocean Beer IPA. The hops brought a hint of bitterness to it, but they seemed quite muted for an IPA. There was a hint of cats piss – guessing someone had used a bit too much Simcoe for bittering rather than trying an actual bittering hop. Kujukuri Ocean Beer IPA finished off with a lingering malt flavour of, you guessed it, caramel.

Kujukuri Ocean Beer IPA The Bottom Line

I’ve had worse than Kujukuri Ocean Beer IPA but that doesn’t mean this is worth hunting out for.
