After drinking in so many places around Osaka, and not finding many shops to get beers to takeaway, Asahiya Liquor Shop came highly recommended by a BeerTengoku reader (thanks Bill!). But be warned, it’s not close to Osaka station by any means and there isn’t much in the area for you to drink at, so it’s going to take some effort, or a serious excuse to get over to Asahiya Liquor Shop.
Asahiya Liquor Shop is a serious beer lovers shop – with brews from all over Japan, and also lots of imported beer too, with a heavy leaning towards American and Belgium. The prices are reasonable and the selection varied enough that you are bound to find something you want to drink. There are two main rooms to Asahiya Liquor Shop, with some beers kept in the fridges at the back – though be warned, not all are for sale so best ask the owner before you take them out – and another room around the corner with the beers out. It’s a little strange to see beers on sale and being stored unrefrigerated, but if that’s ok with you, then don’t let it worry you.
The owner is a very friendly guy and knows his beers so even if you can’t pick out once, then let him know what you like and he will be able to pick out one – or five – that you may like. While Asahiya Liquor Shop does an online presence, at the time of writing the beers can’t be ordered online, and there are no plans to either according to the owner. And whatever you do, when you look at the homepage, make sure you have the volume turned down or you will be subjected to some horrendous music.
