Baird BB15 Zamamiro Ale is an 8% golden ale from Baird Beer that is part of their limited edition range of beers. This beer was first brewed in 2008 when Baird reached the milestone of 1,000 brews and it makes its return to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the Numazu Taproom opening in 2001 and Zamamiro roughly translates to “Eat your heart out!” or “I told you!” as according to Baird Beer, the opening of the brewery in 2000 was met with much skepticism and doubt that they would succeed. Baird BB15 Zamamiro Ale is brewed with organically grown US hops from California. Baird BB15 Zamamiro Ale can be found in both bottles and on tap.
Baird BB15 Zamamiro Ale Aroma and Taste
Baird BB15 Zamamiro Ale poured out an amber bronze colour with a meagre amount of head, less than a finger’s worth, on top. At 8%, I was expecting a booziness to the aroma but it didn’t come through at all during drinking. The beer had a floral aroma to it along with a slight citrus twang to it as well though nowhere near as strong as an IPA would have. It didn’t really have the aroma of a golden ale that I was expecting though due to the hops. The malts produced a faint waft of caramel too.
The hops used in Baird BB15 Zamamiro Ale (Cascade, Chinook, Gargoyle, and Ivanhoe) did produce a bitterness to the beer that left me thinking if this was an IPA / golden ale hybrid beer. While not overly bitter, it did have a certain astringent taste to it, akin to a golden ale, which was nice. The citrus flavours balanced nicely with the malt and there was some hints of a resiny pine flavour to it as well. But..(there’s always a but) the booziness came through when it had warmed up and left a distinct alcohol taste in the aftertaste.
Baird BB15 Zamamiro Ale One Line Review
It isn’t the best representation of a golden ale but Baird BB15 Zamamiro Ale is an interesting take on it.
