Shiga Kogen Not So Special is a 4.5% English style bitter from Tamamura Honten that is part of their winter lineup of beers. It differs from many of the other beers from Tamamura Honten in that they deliberately reigned back on the abv. Though it is styled on an English bitter, Shiga Kogen Not So Special is brewed using hops from The USA and also New Zealand. It can be found in both bottles and on tap as well.
Shiga Kogen Not So Special Aroma and Taste
After finally finding Shinshu Osake Mura, I thought I deserved a beer and was umming and arring between Shiga Kogen Not So Special and also Shiga Kogen No 10 Anniversary IPA. But in the end, because the place is so cheap, I went for both and this was the first one I chose. Shiga Kogen Not So Special poured out a deep amber colour with a slight haze to it, along with a fluffy white head on top. It had a pleasant piney aroma with some citrus bite to it as well and the malts made a slight caramel appearance too.
I was glad that I drank Shiga Kogen Not So Special first as the bitterness would have been lost if I had drunk Shiga Kogen No 10 Anniversary IPA first. The bitterness wasn’t strong but did pair up well with the malt forwardness of the beer. I had been expecting something like an IPA but am grateful that Tamamura Honten scaled back on it. It wasn’t too dissimilar to some of the light bitters I’ve had in the UK but the citrus orange flavour did remind me that it wasn’t quite an English bitter. The aftertaste was a mild mix of caramel malts and slight pine bitterness which didn’t last long though.
Shiga Kogen Not So Special One Line Review
