Ginga Kogen Pale Ale is an English pale ale and advertised as a premium beer by Ginga Kogen. One of Ginga Kogen’s main beers, it is becoming increasingly common to see this in stores, and this was bought in my local regional supermarket for about ¥240.
Ginga Kogen Pale Ale Aroma and Taste
The first thing I noticed when Ginga Kogen Pale Ale was poured was how muddy it looked. In all honesty, I thought I had bought a duff beer and was going to take it back. Being craft beer, I thought I would let it settle as maybe it was the yeast and other particles that were causing the muddiness. The head was frothy but dissipated quickly. The aroma of Ginga Kogen Pale Ale was pleasant, with caramel notes, coinciding with malt and some hoppiness to the smell as well. Not as pungent as expected for an English pale ale.
The flavour of the Ginga Kogen Pale Ale was maltier than expected and slightly sweeter than most English pale ales I’ve had; this leans more towards the English pale ale style of malts rather than hops being the deciding flavour. A slightly bitter aftertaste but it didn’t linger for long.
Ginga Kogen Pale Ale One-line Review
An OK beer but not my first choice of pale ales in a stocked fridge, I’d recommend either Hitachino Nest Pale Ale or Yokohama Pale Ale if they are all in stock.

Horrid stuff. never been able to finish a can.
Sorry to be a pain but it might help to crop pics first before posting and possibly use a better camera. We can see the beer colour and can design but can’t tell if it’s chill haze, yeasty beer or just a shitty phone cam – it’s not fantastic, seeing as you guys are trying to put out a professional looking blog/web site, etc. the pics are often quite poor, to be honest and bloody huge, too.
I’ll stop moaning now. 😉
Hi Christopher,
Thanks for your comment! Photos have been the bane of our existence since we started- we’re taking pics from various devices and at various sizes and Wordpress throws a fit. We’re devising ways to standardise our photos but our reviews are written quite far in advance so occasionally one from the bad old days crops up. Thanks for your patience!
