Groundtap Red Lager : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
Groundtap Red Lager poured out a very dark reddish brown colour with a thick off-white brownish-red head on top that left some thick rings around the edge of the glass during drinking.
In terms of aroma, the beer was very much malt forward from start to finish, with a deep roasted caramel sugar aroma, though it wasn’t cloying. There was a touch of hop nose too once the beer had been given the chance to warm up, with a pairing of light citrus notes and some noble hop like aroma to the beer.
The body was more of the same, though it was balanced out with a bitterness that cut through the malts and hops. The bitterness was light on the palate, with the sweetness from the malts taking some of its bluntness away. The caramel flavour was the most prevelant out of all the flavours in the body, and once again, a light citrus flavour was noted during drinking, but not enough to detract from the malts.
