Passific Lager is a 5% German Lager from Passific Brewing, based in Chigasaki, in Kanagawa, Japan. It’s part of their regular lineup and can be found in both cans and on tap. Passific Lager is brewed using a traditional German decoction method (more about that below) and uses a combination of European and American hops.

Passific Lager : Aroma & Taste

Passific Lager poured out a slightly hazy golden colour with a large frothy white head – pretty much typical of any decent lager really. The aroma wasn’t too dissimilar to a mass market German lager of first pressings that sounds like it was made by a giraffe. Bad similes aside, Passific Lager smelt pretty good with a slight floral aroma to it and a distinct malty backbone of pilsner malts. It’s not going to set your nose alight but what it does, it does well. Little did I know that this would be the theme with Passific Lager.

The body began with a dry, thirst quenching bite to it that moved onto a floral and malty body that pretty much stayed like that until the end of the beer. Another good thing about Passific Lager is that there was none of the sulfur flavours that come with some lagers. There was a slight lingering malty sweetness to the beer but nothing really outstanding or worthy of note.

Passific Lager : The Bottom Line

Is Passific Lager a good beer? Very much so. Is it worth paying twice the cost of a regular macro lager for less beer? Nope.

They are never gonna be able to compete on price.
Lagers take ages and are tricky to get right. If they aren’t great I’d rather not see any of them. Frankly most aren’t worth the price. A few though are awesome!
