Kyoto Irotoridori DDH Imperial Saison : Appearance
Nothing like a saison in the slightest. Vibrant hazy golden yellow colour with a plump white head on top that left some streaks down the side of the glass.
Kyoto Irotoridori DDH Imperial Saison : Aroma
Very fruity aroma of passion fruit and pineapple, with a touch of lemon and lime in the back. This wasn’t your standard saison and I would not be inclined to really call it one either. There was a smidgen of saison funk going on but it was drowned out by the cacophony of fruitiness from the hops. The malts had the faintest of sweetness going for them, but like the yeast phenols, the malts too were almost drowned out.
Kyoto Irotoridori DDH Imperial Saison : Taste
Full bodied with a lot of fruitiness going on in the body – lemon, lime, passion fruit, pineapple, with some mango coming through more so as it warmed up. It really should have been a double IPA with so much going on as once again, the yeast funk from your traditional saison was left wanting. There was some stickiness left on the palate after drinking, with a long lingering fruitiness.
Kyoto Irotoridori DDH Imperial Saison : The Bottom Line
Very drinkable and very nice, but not suited to the imperial saison style. Should have been a double IPA with all that was going on.
