Streetlight New Grassic : Background

Streetlight New Grassic is a 6% American IPA from Streetlight Brewing, based in Soen, Sapporo. It’s part of their limited lineup and can be found in both cans and on draught. Streetlight New Grassic is brewed with Chinook, Comet, and Idaho 7 hops and has been designed to be drunk as fresh as possible, with the implication of an underlying grassiness to the beer.

Streetlight New Grassic : Appearance

Dark muddy orange colour with a thin white head on top that fades to a few bubbles around the edge of the glass. Some lacing left but a meagre amount.

Streetlight New Grassic : Aroma

Peculiar – I mean a grassy hoppy aroma is one that I don’t particularly enjoy as it means that the hops have usually had too much contact time with the beer. Combined with a light citrus aroma, the beer has a weird aroma to it that I could not decide if I enjoyed or not.

Streetlight New Grassic : Taste

Smooth, well rounded bitterness throughout drinking, but seems a bit fresh to be drinking. Grassy flavour is more pronounced as the beer warms up, though the citrus notes cut through it to make some sense of change in the beer. A medium level of sweetness pervades throughout drinking, leaving a sticky residue on the palate.

Streetlight New Grassic : The Bottom Line

It’s a weird one – it’s been designed to be grassy but that doesn’t mean I have to enjoy it.
