Groundtap Road in the Sky : Background

Groundtap Road in the Sky is a 6% hazy IPA from Groundtap Brewery, based in Saijo, Ehime. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, though its availability is unknown at the time of writing. It was brewed using Citra, El Dorado CGX, and Motueka hops and the label design is taken from the scenery you can see while driving through the high altitudes of the Ishizuchi mountain range.

Groundtap Road in the Sky : Appearance

The beer poured out a dull golden yellow colour with a full body of haze. The head though didn’t last long with just a few bubbles on top that stuck to the side throughout drinking.

Groundtap Road in the Sky : Aroma

Pungent hop aroma of peach and lemon – nicely balanced between the two. As the beer warms up, a touch of grapefruit enters the aroma, with a mild sweetness to the body from the malts. No discernible off aromas at all throughout drinking.

Groundtap Road in the Sky : Taste

Starts off with a swift bitter punch that moves to a flavourful bouquet of hops. Nice blend of peach and lemon to start with, as in the nose, before a grapefruit and pineapple combination follows up. The body was a medium sweetness to it – enough to cut through and support the hops, but not enough to dominate. Light stickiness and residue on the palate, with the beer finishing sweet and hoppy.

Groundtap Road in the Sky : The Bottom Line

I liked Groundtap Road in the Sky a lot with the combination of flavours going on was drinkable and balanced.
