Far Yeast Virtual Reality DDH is a 7% west coast IPA from Far Yeast Brewing Company, based in Kosuge, Yamanashi. It’s part of their Night Watch Project range of beers – a project that was setup at the end of 2019 by a group of by professionals in various fields who love craft beer, such as beer brewers, fashion, graphic, and architectural designers. As the name suggests, Far Yeast Virtual Reality DDH is double dry hopped with Cascade, Centennial, and Idaho 7. At the time of writing, it’s unlikely we’ll see Far Yeast Virtual Reality DDH again – in this reality or another one.

Far Yeast Virtual Reality DDH : Aroma and Taste

Far Yeast Virtual Reality DDH was drunk alongside Far Yeast Virtual Reality TDH with the difference between the beers being the hopping schedule – a good little project that perhaps in hindsight should have been filmed – though Far Yeast Virtual Reality DDH was immediately different in colour. It poured out a light orange colour with a slight haze to it and just a thin amount of white head on top, though that really didn’t linger for long. The aroma was all hops with a citrus bouquet from start to finish, with the most pronounced aromas being of lemon and orange when chilled, along with some grapefruit coming through as Far Yeast Virtual Reality DDH warmed up. In spite of this being styled as a West Coast IPA, there wasn’t much of that influence coming through in the nose to the beer.

The body though had more of a West Coast IPA influence, though more about that in a bit. Far Yeast Virtual Reality DDH started with a slight semblance of bitterness in the body – nothing face screwing but it was noticeable – and the hops shone through with a flavour profile similar to the nose. The main difference was that the grapefruit was more noticeable the malt made an appearance with a light caramel flavour just lingering in the background of the flavour. At 7%, Far Yeast Virtual Reality DDH wasn’t boozy and nor did it have any lingering alcohol heat present. It did finish off with a hoppy citrus end to the beer, that lingered long enough.

Far Yeast Virtual Reality DDH : The Bottom Line

Far Yeast Virtual Reality DDH was a surprising good beer though calling it a West Coast IPA is a bit of a stretch to the profile of the beer though.
