Be Easy STANd Coffee Shake IPA is a 6% American IPA from Be Easy Brewing, based in Aomori, Japan. It’s part of their bottled and draught lineup, though its availability is unknown at the time of writing. The beer was conditioned on freshly roasted coffee beans just long enough to add a coffee aroma and flavor without getting in the way of the hops, though which hops and coffee used are unknown, but it was brewed in collaboration with Via STANd in Tokyo
Be Easy STANd Coffee Shake IPA Aroma and Taste
Be Easy STANd Coffee Shake IPA poured out a golden yellow colour with a thin amount of white head on top that faded, leaving some white streaks down the side of the glass. The aroma was citrusy, lemon and coffee-like aroma – nothing potent from either of the aromas, and neither one really stood out or dominated. Sometimes coffee, that had a slight acridity to it, and sometimes lemon, with a subtle tartness to it. The only thing that was restrained was the “shake” part of the beer, with just a faint amount of lactose sweetness that came through, with a mild creamy nose going on.
The body didn’t pack your usual IPA punch of hops in the bitterness department, with a faint and fleeting one. The flavours of the intermingling hops and coffee was far more interesting than I thought it was going to be. The lemon and roasted coffee notes were nice, didn’t dominate over one another, and had a smoothness that I guessed came from the lactose that had been added. The coffee was not overtly bitter either, with it being used more for the roasted flavours. The aftertaste was fast and fleeting though, with the lemon just managing to come out on top of the coffee.
Be Easy STANd Coffee Shake IPA The Bottom Line
Be Easy STANd Coffee Shake IPA is definitely an interesting beer for sure.
