Nagisa American Wheat is a 5% wheat ale from Nagisa Beer, based in Wakayama, Japan. It’s part of their all-year round lineup and can be found in both bottles and on tap across Japan. Nagisa American Wheat is brewed using 50% wheat and 50% barley, as well as imported Czech Saaz hops.
Nagisa American Wheat Aroma and Taste
Nagisa American Wheat poured out a hazy golden straw colour with a large frothy white head on top that faded fast. There was a strong wheat aroma to it, as well as some weird funky nose too – not a yeast funk but a sulphur-like aroma to it. It had some citrus notes to it but the funky nose was slightly off-putting.
The body was as wheaty as the nose but the funky sour notes came through. Strange. Nagisa American Wheat was drinkable enough, perhaps the funky body was supposed to be there but it began to nag on my brain that it felt wrong. The citrus flavours took some of the edge of, but only enough to make me briefly forget about the sourness.
Nagisa American Wheat The Bottom Line
Perhaps I had struck out with Nagisa American Wheat, but I didn’t enjoy it at all.
