Background
Free Spirits Brewing is a craft beer brewery in Himeji, Hyogo, with the brewery opening in August, 2022. It is located just a five-minute walk from JR Himeji Station and a three-minute walk from Sanyo Himeji Station. he brewery is on the first floor, the brewery pub and restaurant on the second floor, and a beer garden on the rooftop of the third floor.
Miyazaki-san, the owner and brewer, first encountered craft beer in California, where he was posted while working for a trading company, and was shocked by the taste. He started brewing craft beer at home while learning local craft beer, and after returning to Japan he learned brewing in earnest at a Rokko Beer in Kobe.
Free Spirits Brewing actively promotes local production and consumption, and uses yuzu citrus from Himeji and oysters from Ako as ingredients to pair with craft beer. These efforts and the quality of its beer have been recognized, and Free Spirits Brewing have won the nationwide competition “Japan Great Beer Awards” for three consecutive years since 2023.

- Free Spirits Encinitas IPA – A 7% hazy IPA that is brewed using Citra Cryo, Harlequin, Pineapple express, and Simcoe hops.
