Totopia Hydrophobia : Background

Totopia Hydrophobia is an 8% hazy double IPA from Totopia, based in Nagakute, Aichi. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, though its availability is unknown at the time of writing. Totopia Hydrophobia is named after the fear of water, but don’t worry, there is some water in this beer. The beer was brwed with Idaho 7 Cryo, Mosaic, and Nelson Sauvin hops.

Totopia Hydrophobia : Appearance

Poured out a muddy orange brown colour with a medium amount of frothy white head on top that left some bubbles down the side of the glass.

Totopia Hydrophobia : Aroma

Fruity aroma of citrus and tropical notes that didn’t really deviate too much from a prototypical hazy IPA. Medium sweetness in the nose as it warms up, with a touch of alcohol heat in the back.

Totopia Hydrophobia : Taste

Smooth bitterness that was light, but present. As in the nose, the citrus and tropical notes lingered throughout drinking with grapefruit and oranges, and some mango and pineapple. Medium sweetness to support, but not dominate, the hops, with a touch of alcohol heat.

Totopia Hydrophobia : The Bottom Line

It’s a good, solid double IPA but not going to rock your world.
