Yorocco Peninsula Saison is a 5% saison from Yorocco Beer, based in Ofuna, in Kanagawa, Japan. It’s part of their summer seasonal lineup and can be found in both bottles and on tap at limited places across Japan. It takes its name from the Miura Peninsula – that little bit that juts out of the bottom of Kanagawa as Yorocco Peninsula Saison uses wheat sourced from that area. At the time of writing, it’s unknown whether Yorocco Peninsula Saison will come out again or not.

Yorocco Peninsula Saison Aroma and Taste

Yorocco Peninsula Saison poured out a hazy golden colour with a small amount of white head on top that, unsurprisingly, didn’t last long. Just enough for a quick picture and then it disappeared. Yorocco Peninsula Saison had a slight sour twang to it – nothing off-putting or worth worrying about – with a subtle wheaty nose to it. It was all very delicate when warmed up – I swear that if I had sniffed for a little bit too long, then it would have been broken and lost forever. For something so light, I don’t know why I was able to buy this in winter – it certainly wasn’t old stock and had been stored in a fridge at Beer Owle.

The same subtle sour twang was noted in the body, but it was more of a crisp flavour that brought something needed to a beer in need of flavours. The malt flavour was as light as the aromas – just a faint wheat flavour to it with nothing coming through in terms of hops. Yorocco Peninsula Saison ended up as being your prototypical saison – light, slight yeasty funk going on, with just a hint of fruitiness going on. Yorocco Peninsula Saison would have been more suited to a summer drinking session rather than winter.
