Taros Morning Delight : Background
Taros Morning Delight is a 5% white stout from Taros Brewing, based in Hiroshima. It’s part of their canned and draught lineup, though its availability is unknown at the time of writing.
What makes this a white stout and not a golden stout I hear you say? Well apparently, it uses a blonde ale base and is then infused with stout elements, such as coffee or chocolate or both of them, to impart the quality of a stout. Case in point? This beer was made with a blonde ale base and is infused with coffee from Bunga CWS, Rwanda provided by Miles Coffee in Naka-ku, Hiroshima. Outside of that, this beer contains hops in the form of Citra and Cryo Citra.

Taros Morning Delight : Appearance, Aroma, and Taste
First things first, this does look like a blonde ale that someone has passed through a mud filter. It really had a dull amber brown colour to it and I really had to look hard to make sure it hadn’t been infected. The head was plump and fluffy, with it being a vivid white colour, and it clung to the edge of the glass during drinking.
The aroma was all over the place – deep roasted coffee notes and a Belgian funk phenolic yeast aroma lingering underneath it all. Some dryness was noted, as well as a crisp body. Had they used a lager yeast as well to make this beer? My nose was confused as heck. A coffee lager? A blonde beer? A stout? What is going on?
It didn’t help to drink it either as by that point, my palate was as equally as confused as my olfactory senses. Taros Morning Delight was certainly not a morning delight by any standards – in fact, I queried whether I should really have been drinking this? A large, robust coffee flavour was the most prominent, with some phenols noted as the beer warmed up somewhat. YEt combined with a dry lager body, I had no idea what I was drinking.
Taros Morning Delight : The Bottom Line
Taros Morning Delight is all over the place for a beer – is that a good thing or bad thing? I really don’t know.
