Background
Hino Brewing is a brewery located in the Shiga Agricultural Park “Blumen no Oka”. It was founded in January 2018 by three festival-loving individuals from Hino Town : Hiroaki Tanaka, Sean Fumienczki (from Poland), and Tom Vincent (from the UK), who bonded through the local Hino Festival, an event with over 850 years of history.
The brewery’s overarching vision is to intertwine beer brewing with festival celebration, cultural preservation, and community unity: “Beer and festivals are communication tools” . Through locally inspired ingredients, original yeast harvesting, and festival-based beer experiences, Hino Brewing continues to embody the spirit of Hino Town and the Hino Festival. Some of their profits are used to support the Hino Festival and help with some of the staffing challenges by inviting supporters from nearby cities to carry mikoshi.
Beer Reviews
The following are some of the beers we’ve had:
- Hino Kudari Stout – A 5.5% sweet stout brewed using a locally sourced speciality blend coffee though what beans and roast is unknown.
- Hino Shishimai Porter – An 8% Baltic porter that uses imported Polish Lubelski hops, known for being more herbal than citrusy.
