Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza : The Bottom Line

Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza is a good little place to pick up some beers to takeaway and go sit in a park but to sit and drink in? It’s not going to be cheap and that’s the major downside to Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza – the price as it’s up at the more expensive end of bars in Tokyo. The atmosphere is fantastic, the design is relaxed, and the owners are nice and friendly. Moreover, there is no table charge and also free wifi – I just wish it were a bit cheaper and then it would come highly recommended.

Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza : The Full Write Up

Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza is in the Myogadani area of Tokyo – a place that I had never been to, or thought of visiting before my random decision to walk across Tokyo from Sugamo down to Takadanobaba – I do make some weird plans (see a 200 km round trip cycle to Vertere for some beers) but I’ve often thought about how long it would take to walk across Tokyo.

Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza opened up in October 2021 and specialises in craft beer and pizza – two of my loves as I do believe that pizza is the best food delivery vehicle – perhaps food full-stop – ever made by man. Moreover, Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza is less than 2 minutes walk from Myogadani station, on the Tokyo Marunouchi Line. In terms of other craft beer bars in the area, well there are none it seems, so looks like Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza has the area to itself at the time of writing.

Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza : Atmosphere & Interior

Word of warning; the front doors at Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza are a tad slow to open as I found out on the day, almost walking right into them, expecting them to whoosh open for me – so don’t be surprised if you do what I did! However, the inside of Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza is rather light and airy with plenty of space between tables and standing area. They could easily fit a lot more people in here, but I guess Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza are going for style over substance. On the day I went, there was some music playing in the background, and it was variation of grunge, 90s rock, and power-punk – loud enough to be heard but not loud enough to drown out conversations.

Inside, Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza has space for about 30 people for seating, at various barrels, tables, counter seats, and also some tables at the very back of the store, offering some privacy up. I didn’t know about the back seats until I went to the toilet, and I will be going to sit there next time I go. Very cosy. There wasn’t any table charge, the whole place is non-smoking of course with the changes in the laws, and there is also some free WiFi with the details located at the cash register.

Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza : Approach to Covid-19

It seems a bit weird that I am still writing this section, almost two and a half years after introducing it, but Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza has a good approach. All of the staff were wearing masks, people are separated as much as possible, and of course the requisite alcohol sprays are dotted around the bar.

Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza : Beer & Tap Information

So far, so good right? Well when it comes to beers, Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza is very much hit and miss. There are 10 taps of craft beer on with a split between both domestic and imports, though that range does vary from day-to-day so check their social media for updated information. However, the prices are on the more expensive side. The beers come in two sizes: small (250ml) from 900 yen, and regular 365ml) from 1,350 yen it seems as the prices weren’t listed on the menus. The prices do include tax though, so there was some brief respite for my wallet. There wasn’t any beer flight though, which would have been a good choice, but there is the chance to get beers in growlers.

It goes without saying, but Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza does also have a selection of bottled beers that can be bought to take away, or drunk instore, with the latter obviously being more expensive as it does include a corkage fee in the price. The price difference varied greatly between takeaway and drinking in, with one being almost 800 yen cheaper to buy to takeaway. I did pick up a few beers to takeaway and like the beers in-store, all prices include tax.

Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza : Food Information

If you hadn’t had guessed already by the name, and also my professed love for the food, Wedge Bottle Shop & Pizza only sells pizza throughout the day with variations that change regularly. A good indicator for a pizza store is going for the margherita – a classic staple that is hard to screw up really but if you do, then it’s an indicator that the others on the menu aren’t going to be good.

I was disappointed then that the pizza was a pre-made, store bought crust – it was conveniently cut into 6 EXACT slices – but the topping was damned tasty with a nice rich sauce and melted cheese. I would have liked some more char on the crust but I was happy, if not full. The basic pizza was also pretty expensive for what it was, with this costing 1,150 yen.
