Daisen G Beer Yago is a 7% rice beer from Kumezakura Shuzo, based in Tottori, Japan. Itā€™s part of their special edition lineup, though its availability at the time of writing is unknown. Like its bigger sibling, Daisen G Beer Yago is brewed using sake rice known as ā€œYamada Nishikiā€ which is cultivated in the Yasato area at the foot of Mount Daisen.

Daisen G Beer Yago Aroma and Taste

Daisen G Beer Yago poured out a light hazy golden orange colour with a small amount of white head on top that clung to the side of the glass throughout drinking. There was no hop aroma coming off the beer, so hop heads would probably be disappointed straight away with Daisen G Beer Yago. However, if you like malty and yeasty aromas, then youā€™ve come to the right place. Daisen G Beer Yago had a sweet caramel like aroma to it, with some phenolic fruitiness following it up shortly after. The phenolic aroma was a light dusting of Belgian-like aroma to it, something like a Belgian dubbel and blended nicely with the malts. Once the beer had been given more of a chance to warm up, a subtle sake-like aroma was noticeable but not overpowering.

Daisen G Beer Yago had a smooth, well-rounded body that was sticky and sweet, but overpowering or cloying. The malts again were caramel-like but also bready and chewy. The yeast phenols were lying in the background, with again a Belgian quality to them, but the most surprising flavour was the sake-lite one, with its smoothness just prickling through as Daisen G Beer Yago warmed up. It finished off with a light dusting of spice and pepperiness with its alcohol hidden from start to finish.
