Vertere Euclea is a 9.5% double IPA from Vertere, based in Oku-tama, in Tokyo, Japan. It’s part of their canned and draft lineup, though its availability at the time of writing is unknown. Vertere Euclea is brewed using imported Idaho 7, Nelson Sauvin, and Citra hops.

Vertere Euclea Aroma and Taste

Vertere Euclea poured out a hazy golden orange colour with a large plump white head on top that clung to the side of the glass throughout drinking, leaving long, sticky, white streaks down the side of the glass. Unsurprisingly, Vertere Euclea had a pungent and punchy hoppy aroma to it – lots of lemon and grapefruit going on, with some peaches and mango to boot. But just don’t let Vertere Euclea warm up too much – else you’ll get a massive hit of alcohol burn to it. For some reason, the alcohol burn only came through once the beer had warmed up, and that meant it dominated over the other aromas. If you like that sort of thing, all the more for you. There was a faint hint of malt sweetness to the beer but not much was left when the alcohol burn came through.

Drinking Vertere Euclea when it was chilled meant the hoppy flavours were the first ones to come through. Like in the nose, there was a large citrus body to the beer, with the lemon and grapefruit coming initially coming through with some of the peaches and mango following up soon. Vertere Euclea also had a residual, sticky dankness to the body, but that was fleeting as the alcohol burn came screaming through, letting you know it was there. A shame really as I was enjoying the hoppy flavours of the beer before that point. The alcohol burn carried through into the aftertaste, though it did have some hints of citrus flavour, just lying in the background.

Vertere Euclea The Bottom Line

Started off well, but fell flat soon.
