Yggdrasil White Noise is a 4.4% wheat beer from Yggdrasil Brewing, based in Hiratsuka, in Kanagawa, Japan. It’s part of their draft lineup, but due to Covid-19, it was also put into bottles, so it may not be on sale at the time of reading.

Yggdrasil White Noise Aroma and Taste

Yggdrasil White Noise poured out a honey straw colour with a minimal amount of head – so little head that it just ended up being a few bubbles around the outside of the glass that popped and faded away. The aroma coming off Yggdrasil White Noise was peculiar – some wheat and citrus but mixed in with some phenols – it ended up a little weird in the end with some butteriness / diacetyl also coming through. It was all a bit peculiar and not what I was expecting from a wheat beer to be honest.

The body was more of the same as the noise – a peculiar mix of flavours going on that didn’t really seem to blend together in one form or another. The citrus and wheat would have been nice if it hadn’t been for the diacetyl and phenol also mixing in together. It was a bit overpowering for me – and that’s coming from someone who drinks D-IPAs in two or three gulps at times. Yggdrasil White Noise ended up with a lingering phenolic quality that didn’t fade quick enough.

Yggdrasil White Noise The Bottom Line

Maybe it’s the bottling process, but I didn’t enjoy Yggdrasil White Noise. Probably better when fresh I hope.
