Ageuma Helles is a 5% helles beer from Hosokawa Brewery, based in Kuwana, in Mie, Japan. It’s part of their regular lineup and can be found in both bottles and on tap. Like the other beers in the Ageuma Beer range, Ageuma Helles is brewed using imported organic malts from Germany and Ageuma Helles is brewed to a traditional helles recipe.

Ageuma Helles・上馬ヘレスAgeuma Helles Aroma and Taste

Ageuma Helles poured out a relatively clear golden colour with a large plump fluffy white head on top that faded to a few bubbles on top. It smelt like your prototypical helles lager – slight pilsner malt nose with a liberal sprinkling of noble hops permeating through. It was only when Ageuma Helles had warmed up that a slight sour note was found to be in it but it was quite faint and not enough to put someone off drinking.

The body to Ageuma Helles was more of the same as the nose – a liberal dashing of pilsner malts along with a noble-hop bite to it. It was kind of one-dimensional until the final bite at the end which left a slight bitter grainy aftertaste.

Ageuma Helles The Bottom Line

Ageuma Helles is your atypical helles beer. Nothing bad, but nothing special.
