Number 6 The Bottom Line

I enjoyed Number 6 a lot ā€“ more so than I expected and I wholeheartedly look forward to going again there soon as it has everything you could possibly want in a decent craft beer bar. Considering the bar is located in one of Tokyoā€™s more expensive districts, the prices were very reasonable and also included tax, and even more surprising was that there was no table charge either. Had I stumbled into some bar that actually wanted to bring customers in by not hiding any prices? On top of this, the whole place was non-smoking and also had free wifi as well as English menus too. Moreover, there was also a decent selection of vegetarian choices too. There has to be a catch right? Well the only oneĀ minor thing I could see on the menu was that if you bought one of the bottles to drink in store, you have to pay a Ā„200 corkage fee ā€“ or you could just take the bottle home away with you.

Number 6 The Full Review

I was walking around Ningyocho, hoping to find some antenna shops to pick up some beers, when I looked on the BeerTengoku craft beer map and saw that Number 6 was on the way ā€“ so why not pop in? After the disappointing Nihonbashi Brewery I needed some cheering up.

Number 6 opened in May 2019 and is located between Nihonbashi and Ningyocho stations, just across from Koamicho Childrenā€™s Park. Given the name, I thought it was a branch of the same chain that owns Another8 in Meguro or Before9 in Kyoto, but it has nothing to do with those two. Inside, there is space for about 30 people, with 8 people at the counter and another 22 people seated around various tables. The whole place is non-smoking, which also includes the small shop front entrance too, while there is also some free WiFi too. If youā€™re interested in sports, then Number 6, on occasion, shows sports matches too, with the 2019 Rugby World Cup proving to be a popular draw. Number 6 does also not use the dreaded table charge system either ā€“ result!

However, where the name does make sense is in the number of taps they have ā€“ 6! Yes, there are 6 taps of craft beer on at Number 6, with most, if not all, dedicated to domestic beer. The beers come in two sizes: half pint (265ml) at Ā„700 and pint (470ml) at Ā„1200. While those prices are on the higher side, especially for the pints, itā€™s worth reminding that the prices do include tax. Moreover, Number 6 also has two options for beer flights, which gets you 3 x 150ml for Ā„900 or 6 x 150ml for Ā„1500. There is no happy hour nor are there any takeaway draught beers either. Number 6 does have some bottles for sale, at prices just slightly above your usual shop prices; however, if you decide to drink the beers instore then you can expect a Ā„200 corkage fee, but you are also able to take them to drink if you so wish.

All of the food is made in-house at Number 6 ā€“ a fact that I wanted to check out considering they had chicken ham on the menu. Some places in Japan will sell this with it being slightly pink in the middle ā€“ and being from the UK, Iā€™m a little averse to eating uncooked chicken. There are plenty of choices for meat-eaters and vegetarians alike, though I do recommend the 3 appetizer choice for Ā„800 ā€“ it gets you a good sampling of some of the dishes on the menu.
