Craft Beer W&W The Bottom Line

Craft Beer W&W is a small venue in the heart of one of Osaka’s busiest areas. It’s in a great location for any tourists who need to take a break from the crushing crowds and noise of Namba, and has a decent selection of both bottled and draft beer. It’s a nice place to stop in for a beer break, but its small size and limited food menu make it hard to enjoy for long periods of time.

Craft Beer W&W The Full Review

Craft Beer W&W is a small craft beer bar located in Namba’s main shotengai. It has indoor seating for about 20 people, and a small outdoor area with room for about six. Smoking is allowed in the outdoor area but prohibited inside. The interior is a strange mix of old cozy wood tables and chairs, and modern style bar and barstools. It shares a location with a craft coffee house as well, so if you’ve had a few too many and need to sober up just head outside and through the other door attached to the building. Unfortunately the bar does not have its own bathroom, so patrons should take care of business before entering, otherwise you’ll have to leave the bar and go around the corner to another building. Because the location is so tourist heavy the staff speak a bit of English and are very patient when dealing with customer language barriers.

The beer selection at Craft Beer W&W is pretty good. They have 19 craft beers on tap, though most are fairly common like Spring Valley Brewery, Yona Yona Ale, Hitachino Nest, and Far Yeast Brewing. Prices for draft beers are 800 for a small and 1050 for a regular. They also have an additional import beer on tap which you can find information for on a whiteboard atop the bar. In addition to the draft choices, they have a selection of ten bottled beers, which are typically a mix of Japanese and imports. The prices and availability of these range more often than the draft list, so the list of bottles frequently has some that are sold out. On average each is about 1000. When I stopped by for this review I had a bottle of Minoh stout and their import draft, which was Coronado 23rd Anniversary DIPA.

If you have some friends who aren’t into craft beer, the bar also stocks a few soft drinks and boasts a specialty gin and tonic made with Ki No Bi artisanal gin. Their food menu is pretty limited, consisting mostly of appetizers, but they do have a house made potato chip basket available in a variety of flavors. The chips are available to go, so if you’ve got a busy Namba day ahead of you feel free to get a bottle and some chips and keep moving.

How to Get to Craft Beer W&W

The closest station to Craft Beer W&W is Namba station on the Midosuji line. JR Namba is a few minutes further away.  The bar is about a four minute walk from the station. The easiest way to get there is to go through Namba Walks and use exit B21.

When did this open? When I was in Osaka for FlyerTalk’s Japan Do! in 2016, I stayed at Khaosan World Namba, which had just opened that weekend. I did not get here.
This venue was | is a 9 minute walk from there. So I recommend it to those looking to stay cheaply in Osaka, yet still getting to craft beer venues. (One of these days, hostel bars will awaken to craft beer. But that is OK.)
