Shiga Kogen Harvest Brew Smol is a 3.5% session IPA from Tamamura Honten, based in Nagano, Japan. It’s part of their limited edition lineup and can be found in both bottles and on-tap at various bars across Japan. As the name suggests, Shiga Kogen Harvest Brew Smol is part of their Harvest Brew range of beers that uses the fresh hops from the latest harvest during the brewing process. It is brewed using Centennial and Willamette hops, with this batch being a one off.

Shiga Kogen Harvest Brew Smol Aroma and Taste

Shiga Kogen Harvest Brew Smol poured out a hazy orange colour with a tiny amount of white head on top. And everything about Shiga Kogen Harvest Brew Smol was small – a mild hoppy aroma of cardboard and lemon with some dankness that came through. I’m not a fan of Williamette – it’s floral notes can either make or break a beer, but in Shiga Kogen Harvest Brew Smol it seems to have done the latter. The paperiness of the aroma wasn’t pleasant – and it was fresh!

There was no hint of booziness to Shiga Kogen Harvest Brew Smol nor were the hops bold in the body. Everything seemed like it had been dialled back in as to not offend anyone during drinking. Perhaps the best thing about the beer was the nice malt sweetness which brought a respite from the hops. Shiga Kogen Harvest Brew Smol finished off with a lingering paperiness to it and I couldn’t have been happier for it to have finished and been drunk.

Shiga Kogen Harvest Brew Smol The Bottom Line

I didn’t like this bottle of Shiga Kogen Harvest Brew Smol – perhaps a dodgy one, or a bad batch but na.
