Trunk Coffee & Craft Beer The Bottom Line

Trunk Coffee & Craft Beer was a surprise for me as a random find and is a bit off the beaten track, but if you’re in the area then pop along to get a decent selection of craft beer from Japan, while your friends can drink some very nice coffee. The chilled atmosphere was also conducive to drinking but the dinner booking at Midtown BBQ meant I couldn’t stay for as long as I wanted to. It was great to see a beer flight available too at Trunk Coffee & Craft Beer – something that on our travels was more of an exception rather than the norm. While the menus are mostly in Japanese, the staff were more than happy to help to explain things too in English. The whole three floors at Trunk Coffee & Craft Beer are non-smoking and also has free Wifi too.

Trunk Coffee & Craft Beer The Full Review

Trunk Coffee & Craft Beer is the second shop in the Trunk Coffee chain, which opened in June 2017, and over the last few years, they’ve teamed up with Shiga Kogen to also make some collaboration beers. This interest has seen them becoming known not just for their range of coffees, but also having craft beer on tap too. During a random moment of inability to sit still in Nagoya, something that I’m well known for, Trunk Coffee & Craft Beer was on the radar to pick up a nice cup of coffee, yet I ended up getting beer instead.

Trunk Coffee & Craft Beer is located about 2 minutes from Kamimaezu station, and I strongly recommend NOT WALKING from Fushimi – it took me about 25 minutes to get there and next time, I will definitely be using the local subway to get there. Trunk Coffee & Craft Beer encompasses three floors – the first being the serving area, the second floor being a small cushioned filled area, and the third being the usual seated area with workspace. The whole building is non-smoking and also has free Wifi. There is also no table charge at Trunk Coffee & Craft Beer, but don’t expect to see students with heads down or people studying – this place felt like a serious coffee shop with a bar and not something like a Starbucks or Tully’s.

Though Trunk Coffee & Craft Beer may be better known for its coffee, there are also 7 taps of craft beer on, with the majority of them being domestic craft beer. The beers come in two sizes: small (about 235ml) from ¥700 to ¥850 and regular (470ml) from ¥1,150 to ¥1,250. The prices do include tax. They also up a three beer tasting flight which consists of any 3 x 100ml beers on the menu for ¥1,000 – a good deal considering that you can choose any beer off the menu to put on the beer flights. There’s no happy hour nor any takeaway beers – shame really considering the number of parks in the area.

I have to admit, I didn’t try any of the food at Trunk Coffee & Craft Beer, mainly because I had dinner plans for Midtown BBQ, but I was assured that there is a small selection of nibbles and bar snacks available, with some vegetarian choices as well.
