Songbird Le Orage is a 5.5% Belgian brown ale from Brewery Songbird, based in Kisarazu, in Chiba, Japan. It’s part of their limited edition line up, and can be found in both bottles and on tap. The name Le Orage is French for “storm” – is this going to cause havoc with our stomach?

Songbird Le Orage Aroma and Taste

Songbird Le Orage poured out a dark muddy brown colour with a smattering of slightly off-white head that collapsed fast to a few bubbles. There was a strong caramel nutty-like aroma to the beer, with a subtle yeasty nose to it – think of some phenolic Belgian yeast and you’d be close.

The body to Songbird Le Orage was kind of like an English brown ale – a little bit thin, with some sweetness of caramel to it, as well as some nutty flavours too. The hops were more earthy than citrusy, with just a slight dryness to the beer too. Songbird Le Orage also had your typical phenolic Belgian yeast kick to it – nothing overpowering, but it was noticeable between the malts and hops. The beer finished off with a lingering caramel sweetness before segueing into the fruity phenolic yeast.

Songbird Le Orage The Bottom

Songbird Le Orage is your typical Belgian brown ale – simple and straight-forward.
