TDM 1874 Aoyama The Bottom Line

If you’re in the Aoyama area, and are looking for somewhere to drink, then TDM 1874 Aoyama should be on your list – either for a quick couple of beers, or for a more substantial sessions upstairs. While we didn’t get to sample the food we’ll definitely be popping along another time soon when we’re in the area. The whole place is non-smoking and has no table charge either, though prices do not include tax. For those interested, there is enough English on the menus to order a few beers and most importantly, there is also the option of getting a few walking beers as you get to the nearest station. At the time of writing, we didn’t pick up any Wifi though.

TDM 1874 Aoyama The Full Review

With a successful chain of shops and also a brewpub in the Yokohama area, it was only a matter of time before TDM 1874 started to stretch its legs and they did so in Aoyama, renaming their Marche Du Jeux shop TDM 1874 Aoyama in November 2018. With this rebranding, the focus moved toward half craft beer bar and half wine store – something that sounds unusual at first, but like their store in Kannai, seems like a great idea to create a larger catchment of drinkers.

TDM 1874 Aoyama is located in the Aoyama area of Tokyo – one of the more affluent areas – and the store is situated between Aoyama-Itchome station and Gaiemmae station. It’s about five minutes from either, with the latter being situated closed towards Shibuya though it’s still a hefty walk away. There are two floors to TDM 1874 Aoyama – the first floor which encompasses a standing bar with space for 10 or so people at the counter, and also a second floor seated area, with space for about 16 people. We didn’t get upstairs on the day we went – something about it being busy and also with us not being good with stairs after a few beers – however, we were told that the whole place is non-smoking and there is also no table charge too.

There are five taps of beer on at TDM 1874 Aoyama, with four dedicated to their own offerings, and one tap of Asahi beer *spit* though that does mean you can go along with your non-craft beer drinking friends and educate them in the glorious ways of craft beer. The beers come in two sizes: half UK pint (284ml) from ¥550 to ¥590 and US pint (473ml) from ¥900 to ¥980, but prices do not include tax. There is also an option to get a takeaway beer of 400ml for ¥820 to ¥890 – a nice little option considering all the parks in the area. There is also a small beer fridge behind the counter where you can pick up some cans – both domestic and imports – to takeaway too. There is also a happy hour choice on the Asahi but let’s be honest, you don’t come all this way for the Asahi.

There is a small selection of nibbles at TDM 1874 Aoyama though we didn’t get offered anything – mainly because we were standing at the counter. There is enough English on the menus to order but anything more descriptive wasn’t offered to us. As a final word of warning – there is a corkage fee for drinking the cans and bottles of wine on site – so be warned!
